Biography Prof. Carlo De Martinis

Association
The De Martinis Telemedicine Panel association (Dematepa) was founded on the initiative of a group of doctors who are experts in internal medicine, students and collaborators of Prof. Carlo De Martinis (L'Aquila 12/5/1933 – Senigallia 23/11/2011), to create a televisit activity, with the collaboration of computer scientists, engineers and other professionals in the health sciences field.
Prof. Carlo De Martinis was not only a talented professor and medical clinician at the University of Ancona first and at the University of Sapienza in Rome later, but also a pioneer in the application of new technologies in the medical field. Already in 1975 he called first a computer scientist and then a mathematician to his clinic in Ancona to begin and give impetus to the application of information technology to medicine, which was attracting the attention of not only the scientific world. To his main missions, that of a teacher who wanted young doctors who were prepared, dedicated and with a strong personality in the field, and that of a medical clinician with great ethical rigor, was added that of a visionary towards the new technologies that would constitute a valid support for everything the health system. He thus engaged the team of his clinic in a finalized project of the CNR, in collaboration with the Institute of Clinical Physiology of Pisa, which concerned the transmission of the electrocardiogram via telephone: a pioneering application of telemedicine.
Students and collaborators of Prof Carlo De Martinis continue the master's work, trying to maintain that 360-degree holistic vision of medicine and information and communication technology.
